The 2007-2008 Washington Times One-on-One Shootout and Skills Challenge preliminary competition will be hosted by the Washington Capitals on Saturday, October 13, 2007, at the Kettler Capitals Iceplex, Ballston Commons Mall, Arlington, VA. Preliminary competition is open to all area USA Hockey registered youth teams, and all area boys and girls high school teams, with
each team allowed to enter as many pairings as they can suit up from their roster. Times for each age group are noted on the table below. Finalists advance to a Championship match between periods of a Capitals game, as noted below. Champions will be presented with awards in a ceremony at the Tuesday, April 1, 2008 Capitals home game.

NOVA Cool Cats Sunday adaptive ice hockey program has started - register to join

Special Hockey International is an adaptive ice hockey program for children and youths (ages 5 - 22) with disabilities that provides a relaxed environment to learn and be part of a team. The NOVA Cool Cats practice each Sunday at the Ketler Captials Iceplex at Ballston in Arlington from 3:15 - 4:45pm during the school year. Youth and adult volunteer mentors (buddies) help the athletes each week.

Come by the Ballston ice rink to watch a practice session and see if your child would enjoy this program. The program fee is $130 for the 10-month weekly ice hockey program. In addition, families give a $100 deposit for the use of all equipment needed for their child to play ice hockey. (Equipment can be exchanged for larger sizes as your child grows.)

Note of course that there are several clubs that have not completed try outs.

S Maryland Sabres report that they did not have enough players for a PW team. MYHA had announced it would host three PW teams, but is currently only hosting two. Rumor has it that NOVA could not form a 1995 PW team. Washington Little Caps canceled its 1995 PW team. But rumor also has it that 70 players showed up at Reston PW tryouts. Weird!

CBHL Rink Mashup

Wow! the CBHL is big. WOCKEY now has Mashup Google map of CBHL rinks. That means one map with all of the rinks noted with pins. You can even turn on Google Satellite images so you can see what the rink building looks like - you can even use your Google Earth feature! Go see which rink has cars parked on the ice rink in their picture!!!

The satellite images help to pin point the actual location of the rink building, which is not always exactly the same as the street address. Check it out. Let WOCKEY know if there should be any additions or corrections.

Special Hockey International Tournament April 19 through 22 at Ballston Caps Iceplex

The NOVA Cool Cats will host the Special Hockey International Tournament April 19th Thru April 22th, 2007.

Teams from the United States, Canada and Europe will arrive on Thursday April 19th and depart on Sunday April 22th,with games being played on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The annual tournament banquet will be held on Saturday night. For more info email: Randy Brawley or call 703-395-6278

Thrift Stores for Hockey Equipment??

We at WOCKEY have been thinking about a three part problem:

Generally hockey players have tons of old hockey equipment and tend to just give it away when the opportunity arises
Generally hockey players need new equipment and are willing to shell out big bucks to get it (when equipment swaps take place, they tend to be VERY popular).
There are any number of thrift stores in this area that support worthy causes. Next to the Rockville ice rink is a thrift store that supports the animal welfare league. Next to the Ballston ice rink is a thrift store that supports Arlington Food Assistance Center.

What if we put all those things together. What if WOCKEY helped organize and find thrift shops that would accept and sell hockey equipment, raising money for worthy causes, and advertised those thrift shops in club year books, tournament brochures, and other youth hockey club publications. Seems like a win-win?

What is 'Ace's Got Skills? - The mission of the Ace's
Got Skills competition is for youth ice hockey players
to have fun while pitting their skills against the
skills of other players. The competitions will
showcase the 'best of the best' in each of 5 ice
hockey skill categories, (1) Skating (2) Shooting
Accuracy (3) Hardest Shot (4) Breakaway Shoot out &
(5) Goaltending

Who can compete? - This season Squirt and Pee Wee age
(9-12 yr old) players can compete. In future seasons
we may expand this to other age groups. Participants
will be divided into 'Travel' and 'House' levels to
create the most balanced competitive environment and
there will be winners at both levels.**

[] House level skaters compete against other house
level skaters - travel skaters compete against only
travel level players - house and travel scores are
kept separate

[] There are multiple local compeitions in each Got
Skills market, but skaters only need to compete in ONE
local level competition - if they win a skill in that
competition they qualify for the Regional level
competition in their market*

[] The Sports Illustrated For Kids 'Top Skills' award
takes all the scores for both house and travel and
combines them to come up with the skater with the best
score average in each age group. This winner also
advances to the next round of competition.

[] The $20 registration fee allows skaters to compete
in all skills (fastest skater, hardest shot, accuracy
shooting and shoot out-breakaways). Goalies compete in
the goaltender competition.

WLC and Statesmen Merge!

The Virginia Statesmen and the Washington Little
Capitals, through ongoing discussions about youth
hockey in the Washington area, have developed a
permanent solution that will benefit all travel
players in Northern Virginia and the suburban
Washington area.

Under the cooperative agreement, the Washington Little
Capitals will become the sole Tier I /Junior hockey
club in Northern Virginia, and will offer the full
complement of teams from Pee Wee to Junior A starting
in the 2007-08 season. The new Washington Little
Capitals, Inc., which was formed in May of 2006 as a
non-profit organization in the Commonwealth of
Virginia, will feature a Board of Directors comprised
of Brian Cullen (AMHL franchise owner), Nate Smith
(President of Virginia Junior Hockey Club) and a yet
to be determined third member. The WLC will continue
with Jeff Nygaard as Executive Director.

"This isn't just about Tier I and Junior hockey, it's
about all levels of travel hockey in our area," said
Nygaard. "The WLC and Statesmen had discussions prior
to the 2006-07 season but the timing wasn't right to
get together. The past 10 months gave us time to
discuss philosophies and what we agree is best for
hockey in the area. I had no doubt that Nate Smith ,
Brian Cullen and I could sit down and figure out a
situation that benefits all the players in the area."

The Virginia Junior Hockey Club (which operates teams
under the Virginia Statesmen name) will cease its
hockey operations at the conclusion of the 2006-07
season. "Having one Tier I/Junior club in Northern
Virgnia is the right thing to do for hockey," said
Smith. "The Virginia Statesmen built a solid
foundation of high level Youth and Junior hockey over
its four seasons in operation. But our area can
legitimately support just one Tier I/Junior program.
Combining the Little Capitals' membership in the
Atlantic Youth Hockey League and Junior A affiliation,
with the solid foundation of the Statesmen will create
a very strong program. Not only will Tier I hockey be
better organized in our area, but the Tier II clubs
will also greatly benefit."

Tryouts for WLC Tier I Youth teams will take place at
Kettler Capitals Iceplex from April 10-17, 2007.

The latest rumors over the Little Caps soap opera is that the organization is being sold to folks out at Ashburn - they may play some games at the Capitals Ice Center - but it will be an Ashburn club. So let me count, teams playing at Ashburn include the Extreme, the Wild, the house program, sometimes the Raiders, the Cool Cats, and now also the Little Caps. Getting a little crowded out there isnt it?

Skills Competition at the new Capitals Ice Center

The Washington Times preliminary competition for the 2006-2007 One-on-One Shootout & Skills Challenge will be hosted by the Washington Capitals at the new Capitals Practice Center, Ballston Mall, Arlington, VA on Sunday, November 12, 2006. The preliminary competition is open to all Washington area USA Hockey registered youth hockey teams, with a one-on-one shootout format for the Mite PeeWee age groups and Special Hockey, and a new, expanded Skills Challenge format for the Bantam through Midget age groups. The High School Skills challenge is open to all MSHL and NVSHL boys and girls teams. This year, each registered USA Hockey Team will be allowed as many entrants into the competition as they can uniquely dress from their roster. Stick and Shoot (aka Stick Time, Stick and Puck) is open, unstructured ice time for hockey players. It is not pick up hockey, although sometimes pick up games form. It is more a time for hockey players to hit the ice and work on skills. This may be the opportunity for parents to hit the ice and work with younger players. Stick and Shoots can get crowded; when they do, the players usually segregate so that the older players are on one end and the younger players are on the other end. There is a good coorelation between rinks that have stick and shoot and clubs that have greater success. It gives players who desire to excell an opportunity to do so.

You should always check with the rink before heading to Stick & Shoot to ensure that it is still taking place. Some rinks always have their stick and shoot schedules on the same webpage:

Penthouse Capitals

The Washington Post today has an article on the CAPS move to Ballston. The Caps Ice Center in Ballston is said to open in mid October. It had been scheduled to open in May, but hey, when you are constructing two ice rinks on top of an old municiple parking garage, not everything goes as expected. One of the big questions is, where are the CAPS practicing. Rumors had it that Piney Orchard was trying to gouge the CAPS when the contract between the two ended (rumors, I dont know if it is true). So it sounds like, according to another post article, that the CAPS will be practicing out at the Ashburn rink until the Ballston rink is online. Oh, by the way, the management company of the Caps practice rink and the management company of Ashburn are apparently the same or closely related.

The Caps Ice Rink have announced a full fall program. It is not on the rink website. We will post it soon. No word on a CBHL team there next year, although rumors are starting (whining by other tier II clubs that "there are too many tier II teams"). And still waiting word from the Caps Rink that they will have Wifi there!

CBHL Expands - Peninsula Youth Hockey Association

new club - the Peninsula Youth Hockey Association,
apparently out of Yorktown, VA. According to their

Jamboree:

"The format will include either 3 or 6 shortened
games, with 3 games being more likely. The games will
typically consist of one, 20 minute period. Each team
will play only one day and the games will be grouped
together so that they will only have to be at a rink
for half of a day. For example, a team will play one
20 minute game versus Team A, then immediately play a
20 minute game versus team B. After the second game,
they will have a 45 minute break and then play a 20
minute game versus Team C. "

News from the Caps Ice Rink - Needs your Input

Lots of news from the Caps Ice Rink in Ballston.

Arlington County is soliciting proposals for a miniature golf course for the park right outside the ice rink. There use to be a Putt Putt golf there --- When I moved to Arlington over 10 years ago the remains of the closed Putt Putt golf were still there. There is also a Regional Park miniature golf just about a mile away.

We have also seen the first formal announcement of programs at the Caps Ice Rink in Ballston. The Arlinigton County Recreation Guide for the Fall made the following announcement:

The Washington Capitals and your chance to Learn to Skate are coming to Arlington this Fall
A state of the art twin sheet ice skating rink will open in the heart of Arlington County, Virginia this fall. Positioned atop the Ballston Common Mall, the new rinks will become the Washington Capitals practice facility; as well as becoming the first public ice rink in the Arlington Community. This facility will offer year round programs to the area community. We are conveniently located near the Ballston metro stop on the Orange line and has over 6 levels of parking. The rink is also accessible to the mall.

Stretching is Bad for You?

Stretching is good for you right?? Well maybe not!!
Listen to this CBC science show Quirks and Quarks
which discusses the myth of exercise and stretching -
stating that stretching right before a game or
practice will actually DECREASE your performance.

One study after another has found that stretching does
not decrease injuries, and does damage the muscle
thereby decreasing performance.

Is stretching good for something? Well yeah,
stretching itself is a work out and can over time
increase flexibility and strength. Stretch as a work
out - or stretch after practice.

And stretching is not to be confused with warming up.
Warming up remains vital. But one might take pause as
the goalies go running out to the middle of the ice
right before a game to stretch out that butterfly.

8 Members of the Washington Pride Move on To College Hockey!

MYHA is announcing that 8 seniors have been accepted to play hockey at Div I and III schools, an amazing achievement!

The USA Hockey Southeast District Champion Washington Pride will send eight 2005-06 seniors to the next level, to pursue their hockey and academic careers at Division I and III schools. Senior Emily Tiernan will see Ivy in 2006-07 as she heads to Princeton University in New Jersey. In addition, headed to the ECAC is goaltender Maxie Weisz, who will enroll and play at St. Lawrence University. Two other Pride Seniors will be headed to the ECAC, as Lindsay Berman prepares for a move to Northeastern University, and Megan Keever heads to cross-town rival Boston College. The CHAs Niagara University will open its doors to the Prides Jill Zelonis, and Marjie Jones will head to independent Sacred Heart University in Connecticut. At Division III, the Prides Kate Pokrass and Marjorie Billings will both head to Little Ivy schools, with Pokrass suiting up for Bowdoin College and Billings headed to D-III National Champion Middlebury College.

Let's Go Cool Cats - Let's Go!

The Washington Post this week had an article on the Northern Virginia Cool Cats hockey team. Now this is not the type of team you might normally play during a CBHL game or even an exhibition game. This is a special team led by the special head coach, Randy Brawley - a guy who has given his all both to the Cool Cats and to his family. Cool Cats is a part of the American Special Hockey Association - giving an athletic opportunity to kids with special needs such as Austism. According to the Post:

Scott Brawley spent years watching his older sister's hockey games before his dad, Randy, started the Cool Cats two years ago. Randy Brawley was refereeing at the Special Hockey International Tournament when he heard about the Washington Ice Dogs in Laurel. Hickey, coach of the Ice Dogs, helped Randy Brawley start the Cool Cats.

A number of teams are apparently still looking for players - even after their tryouts. According to their websites - and this may already be out of date, the following teams are looking for players.

Tri City Eagles are looking for U16 and Midget players.
Chesapeake Chiefs are looking for Bantam A & B skaters and goalies, and Midget U18.
Bowie is looking for a Bantam A goalie, Bantam B skaters, and a Squirt B goalie.
Souther Maryland Sabers has positions open on Pee Wee, Bantam, and Midget teams.
Baltimore Stars has openings on Bantam AA, Midget U18 AA, girls U12.

Joe Howe of the Wash Ice Dogs Named 2006 USA Hockey Disabled Athlete of the Year

Joe Howe from the Special Hockey Program has been named the recipient of the 2006 USA Hockey Disabled Athlete of the Year. Joe will be honored at the USA Hockey Annual Congress on Wednesday, June 7, 2006 during the President's Dinner

When Joe Howe says that hockey turned his life around for the better, he isnt exaggerating. Howe, 34, resides in Annapolis, Maryland and has played for the Washington Ice Dogs for six years. For the past four years, he was worked at a Safeway grocery store in Annapolis.

Joe lives in a group home with two other residents and his guardian, Walter Boydston of Langton Green, Inc., an agency that oversees residential settings for developmentally challenged people.

Raiders Announce New Head Coach

The Reston Raiders announce the hiring of Larry Roe as their new head coach. According to the Raiders

Coach Roe was one of the founders of the RRHC 13 years ago and has served the club in the past as President, Head Coach and VP of Hockey Development. In addition to coaching at RestonCoach Roe has also coached in the NOVA, Little Capitals & Univ. of Maryland programs.

Coach Roe replaces Head Coach Darren Hersh who served as head coach of the Raiders for only one year. Coach Hersh replaced Head Coach Paul Mulvey who moved to the Statesmen when the Raiders transfered their Tier 1 program to the Statesmen.

WLC Re-Reorganize

The WLC have put out a further notice indicating further reorganization. In the notice, WLC concedes that there will be no Pee Wee or Bantam teams this year. They had previously announced that there would be no Squirt.

It would be useful if someone in comments could explain the relationship of WLC and AYHL and these franchices.

The WLC stated

At the May 15 AYHL meeting in New Jersey, a new franchise ownership agreement for the Washington, D.C. area was formally approved. John Osidach and Brian Cullen have formed a new partnership, titled Virgnia WLC, LLC, into which the AYHL franchise will be placed
The Little Caps will continue to operate as AYHL members, but under a new Virginia-based corporation with new leadership. The WLC will have a Board of Directors for oversight, and will contract with individuals to administer the day-to-day and hockey activities. Jeff Nygaard will remain in place as the Executive Director of the Franchise.

Team Maryland, which was formally approved at the May 15 AYHL meeting as a probationary member, will serve as its own AYHL franchisee for Suburban Maryland and Wasington, D.C. The Washington Little Capitals will continue to work in cooperation with Team Maryland to solidify the Tier I landscape in this area, providing the top players in the area a convenient opportunity to play in one of the premier Tier I leagues in the County.

Youth Hockey Wiki?

I am thinking of creating a Capital Beltway Youth Hockey Wiki. A Wiki is a cooperative website that allows every visitor to edit, revise, and contribute to the pages of the website. The premier example of this is Wikipedia, the open source online encyclopedia (someone has already created a Wikipedia entry for the CBHL although it is very incomplete). The agenda is to create a neutral portal of news and information about Capital Beltway Youth Hockey. Everyone owns it. And everyone benefits from it. And hockey families, teams, and clubs benefit from having better access to information.

A break from our regularly scheduled programming -

The Internet has thrived in a competitive market with thousands of ISPs. The Internet has been an open network where the Internet network service has no control over what applications you use or what content you view.

Well that has all changed. Now there are basically two broadband ISPs - the cable and the DSL providers (what looks like other DSL providers are just companies reselling the Bell Telephone company DSL - and they will be going out of business soon). This broadband providers no longer exist in a competitive market. They have market power and they are going to use it.

They have said that Google should no longer get a free ride on the Internet. Well Google never got a free ride. But AT&T's solution is blackmail. Either Google pays up - or YOU will not get access to google. This Broadband Internet service providers will be able to control what you see and what applications you use. If you want to order pizza at ACME Pizza, they will take you instead to their paying parter BETA Pizza - who is giving them a kick back. Small websites - the websites of hockey clubs and ice rinks - will get lost in the cross fires of the fights between your DSL provider and Google, Yahoo or MS - and your club members will no longer be able to access your websites unless you pay "protection" to the broadband Internet service providers.

We need network neutrality. We need common carriage. We need - just like the telephone network - just like the roads - just like the trains - carriers who cannot discriminate about who uses the network, what content you see over the network, and what applications you use.

2005-06 Tier II Club Performance - a score card of sorts

How did the clubs do this year. Using back of the envelope math - and just looking at Tier II Boys teams, what if we treat it like a track meet. Give 5 points for first place in a division (ie., first place in Bantam B), 4 points for second place, 3 points for third place, 2 points for fourth place, and finally 1 point for fifth place. Now add up all of the points that a team earned in the last year - based on season results posted at CBHL (not based on year end tourney), and you get something like the chart to the right. Pretty impressive!

WLC and Extreme MOU

Well if not a partnership with the Statesmen, how about a partnership with Ashburn Extreme?? Both Extreme and WLC are announcing a new MOU. The WLC states:

Keeping lines of communication open between the clubs and pledging to work together, rather than against each other, will ultimately enhance the travel hockey experience in the area.

The Extreme states

The Xtreme become the first Virginia based organization to partner with the WLC's.

Any Virginia club is invited to sign the MOU. The MOU states

The tier II organization will agree to support the WLC program in the following ways:

a) Inform its players of the tryout schedule.

b) Be positive in promoting the Washington Little Capitals.

c) Be involved in the tier I Washington Little Capitals operation.

What does the tier II organization get in return:

The Washington Little Capitals will provide the following in return for the organization’s support:

a) WLC will not recruit players either actively or passively.

b) WLC will provide tier II club patches to be worn on the WLC jerseys.

c) Each participating Tier II organization’s president or hockey director will have a seat on the WLC Board of Advisors.

d) WLC will provide evaluators for Tier II team tryouts (another unaffiliated voice of reason during the tryout exercise) if requested.

e) WLC will be involved in the affairs of the tier II league if requested by the CBHL.

One rumor places the timing of the WLC / Ashburn MOU at just about the same time negotiations broke down between WLC and Statemen. Extreme has the reputation of wanting a Tier 1 program for some time (and has an excellent Tier II program).

WLC and Statemen to Merge? WLC Says NO!!

Wow, the swirl of club realignment just seems to continue. The WLC has posted a long statement addressing Tier I reallignment in the CBHL area - recounting the history of the formation of Team Maryland and the disbandment of the MYHA Tier I program - whether WLC had anything to do with that - and merger negotiations between WLC and Statemen where WLC points fingers at Statesmen.

Among the points made
* WLC is on for the 2006-07 season at Ballston but will only offer 3 teams
* There are too many tier 1 teams, and this has hurt AA teams
* Clubs agreed to disband Tier I squirt programs (and everyone did but Statemen)
* Clubs agreed to together to eliminate club hopping (oh goody, so the kids get stuck in programs that are faultering???)
* Support Team Marylands AYHL bid
* WLC is a AYHL member
* MYHA, Team Maryland, and Statemen all applied for AYHL membership
* MYHA and Team Maryland were told to talk amongst themselves - they did and came back with support for Team Maryland
* WLC and Statemen did talk Mergers but WLC blames Statemen for botching what was almost a done deal

There is no statement on the Statemen website. The Statemen will apparently have 5 Tier 1 teams.

WLC ReAnnounce Try Outs

WLC have reannounced try outs. Tryouts will be in May at Ashburn Ice House. This will be for Pee Wee, Bantam, and U16. There will not be a Squirt Tier 1 team. As reported earlier, the WLC home ice will be Ballston, which is due online in August (which is why try outs are not at Ballston).

So looks like Northern Virginia will be hosting 2 Tier 1 teams: Washington Little Caps and the Statesmen.

Ashburn Extreme Announced Try Out Dates and Coaching Line Up

From the rumor mill - last year's expansion team, the Virginia Wild, with home ice at Ashburn Ice House was a strong success. They took 4th Place in the Squirt B Season, fifth place in the Peewee B season, and Second place in the Bantam B season. Rumor has it, they will be back - but they are the step child out at Ashburn - with practice times early on the weekend mornings - generally not having practices during the week. They have yet to post try out information for the coming year. It also continues to beg the question of who is going to grab that open ice at Ballston.

New Tier 1 Team: Team Maryland

With the movement of the Washington Little Caps from Laurel and Fort Dupont, to Ballston, VA, and opportunity arose - the MYHA Tier 1 team has announced that it is, in cooperation with Laurel teams, morphing into Team Maryland - a new Tier 1 team which will be supported by Maryland CBHL Tier II teams: MYHA, Tri City Eagles, the Howard Huskies, the Frederick Fury, the Baltimore Stars, the Chesapeake Chiefs, the Chevy Chase Club and the Metro Maple Leafs. Try outs for the new Team Maryland will take place the week of April 17.

Wow how the landscape of Wash DC teams has changed in the last year! Virginia Wild formed. Reston Raiders split, moving its Tier 1 program to the Statesmen. Statesmen expanded to be both Tier 1 and a Juniors team. WLCs has reorganized and moved. And now the MYHA Tier 1 program is displaced by Team Maryland!

The Washington Little Capitals have announced the
postponement of their 2006-07 tryouts until late
April or mid-May.

Because the WLC is currently cooperating with
various organizations to help re-organize the youth
hockey landscape in the Washington metro area, the
attempt to hold WLC tryouts beginning April 6 was
not going to be in the best interests of the youth
players who are considering Tier I hockey.

The club would like to apologize for any
inconvenience this will cause, but in the long run
the decision will work out best for all involved.

The Little Capitals will re-establish tryout dates
and times as soon as possible. Please check this web
site frequently for updates.

It's official. WLC is going to Disney Land, er, ah, I mean Ballston. They will be reorganized, "rejuvenated," revitalized, revived, and a few other "re's". What they wont is have a Squirt Tier 1 team. Consistent with rumors of other clubs, there wont be Tier 1 Squirt this year.

Try out information.... has still not been announced. And the Ballston rink doesn open till August.

Coaching the goalie is a difficult task ... a difficult task frequently left to, well, no one with no ice time and no resources. It is said that the goalie is 40% of the game - the pitcher of the game - but frequently ignored in practice. And they are regularly disrespected by shot happy wings declaring that slashing their own goalie during practice "is fun." Here is a good article from The Goalie Doctor giving advice on coaching goalies: An Open Letter to Coaches along with several other good articles.

Ice Hockey Spring Leagues

Ashburn Ice House Evaluation Skate April 1 & 2. Practice days (every other week) and game times are already set. For Squirt, practice is on tuesday, games are late Saturday afternoon. Cost squirt is $350. 6 games, 6 practices, 2 playoff games. Season is April 1 through June 25.

Rockville MYHA PDF Apr 22- June 17. Games will be on Saturdays. Cost is $250. No practices are listed however...
MYHA also hosts instructional scrimmages on Sunday afternoon, Instructional program, Power Skating on Monday and Wednesdays, Stick Handling on Monday and Wednesdays, Checking Defensive clinic on Tuesdays, a Shooter or Goalie clinic on Tuesdays or Fridays (2 clinics), Elite Skills on Wednesdays.

NOVA Ice Dogs does not list a spring league.

Reston Raiders registration due March 5. Spring League begins on March 20, 2006 and runs through the middle of June. Specific time slots for games and pactices is not currently designated. For Squirts the cost is $295, there are 9 games and 4 practices. Last year, the games were during the week, conflicting with Ashburn's Spring Leagues Practice time.

Meet the Team Celebration to Include Special Announcement
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Washington Capitals will hold Fan Fest at the site of their future training facility, Ballston Common Mall, in Arlington, Va., Friday, Sept. 23 from 7-9 p.m. The event will give Capitals fans a chance to meet the 2005-06 team in person and will include a special announcement.
Players will be signing autographs throughout the mall from 7-8 p.m. At 8:30 p.m., Joe Beninati, the Capitals’ Comcast SportsNet play-by-play broadcaster, will introduce the team in the atrium of the mall followed by the special announcement from vice president and general manager George McPhee. Fan Fest is free of charge and open to the public.Capitals season-ticket and partial plans for the 2005-06 season are now available as well as individual game tickets. Season-ticket prices were reduced by an average of 11% last summer and will start at as low as $14 per game. Plan holders can also take advantage of the Caps PowerPay option – monthly payments with no fees or charges. Capitals individual game tickets are also currently on sale at all Ticketmaster outlets.
